Der Titel lässt's schon vermuten: "1" war als erstes von mehreren Alben geplant. Die Aufnahmen des Debutalbums von Black Owl sollten ursprünglich bereits Mitte/Ende 2022 veröffentlicht werden.
Aufgrund technischer Schwierigkeiten verzögerte sich die Fertigstellung des Albums jedoch um mehr als ein Jahr und sollte ironischerweise erst nach der Auflösung der Band im Spätsommer 2023 erfolgen. Die sechs Stücke des Albums wurden bei allen öffentlichen Auftritten nach der pandemiebedingten Pause gespielt und stellen gewissermaßen die Essenz des Repertoires von Black Owl dar. "Sedative Sea" wurde bereits 2020 veröffentlicht und in leicht überarbeiteter Version dem Album als Bonus Track beigefügt.
